Medical Acupuncture

Medical Acupuncture is an ancient healing art that originated in China and involves the placement of small needles through the skin at defined locations that induce a change in the body’s natural healing and pain relief mechanisms. Evidence Based Medical Acupuncture is performed by a physician following a treatment protocol that scientific research has proven to be beneficial. Medical Acupuncture treatments are not painful. The needles used are about the diameter of a human hair, are made of stainless steel and individually wrapped in sterile packaging. Each needle is only used once.

Medical Acupuncture treatments often involve the use of small electrical stimulation devices that induce a small current between needles. This creates a light tingling, or tapping sensation. The strength of the stimulation is adjusted to the patient’s comfort.

Hirsch Holistic Family Medicine is now offering a series of Evidence Based acupuncture treatment protocols to the general community. These treatments are derived directly from clinical research studies that show therapeutic benefit with minimal or no side effects.

Treatments are currently offered for the following diagnoses. Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis of the Knee, Smoking Cessation, Weight Loss, Low Back Pain, Diabetic Neuropathy, Overactive Bladder.

Although you do not need a referral to schedule a visit for medical acupuncture, you should discuss acupuncture therapy with your physician. Dr. Hirsch will provide treatment correspondence to your physician upon request. If you would like to schedule a visit for medical acupuncture, please send an email here.
